In addition to the tribute series to the Swedish New Wave, the Cinémathèque offers the opportunity to discover two more films from Vilgot Sjöman’s body of work.
Blushing Charlie (Lyckliga skitar) by Vilgot Sjöman Sweden, 1970, 119 min 35 mm, Subtitled in English (VOSTA)
Charlie Svensson is a truck driver who enjoys a carefree bachelor life. One day, he agrees to let a seven-month-pregnant girl, Pia, stay on the houseboat where he lives. She makes efforts to brighten up the interior, and this sparks in Charlie a desire for a more orderly, domestic life. Meanwhile, left-wing students involve the driver and his truck in a pro-Cuban protest. When Pia gives birth, she reunites with her fiancé, and Charlie abandons the idea of marriage to continue his political journey.
Co-presented with the Cinémathèque Québécoise.
With the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Ottawa.
