Divided into three chapters, Honkasalo’s moving documentary shows the devastating impact of the war in Chechnya on children. Sometimes forced to fight, and at other times abandoned or orphaned, these children are confronted with brutal realities that bear no resemblance to what childhood should be.

For this cycle dedicated to Finnish filmmaker Pirjo Honkasalo, FIKA(S) and the Cinémathèque québécoise present a selection of films whose work has rarely been shown in North America outside of individual screenings. This is a unique opportunity to explore, over several decades, the body of work of a director with a distinctive voice, blending fiction and documentary. Her most recent film, Orenda, will be presented in its Canadian premiere.
