Fire-Eater (Tulennielijä) // Through a narrative structure featuring several flashbacks, Helena reflects on her childhood in the circus world, which was marked by parental abandonment and her devotion to her twin sister. Here, Honkasalo delivers a powerful story from a woman’s perspective that highlights the impact of the past on human development — a recurring theme in the filmmaker’s work.

For this cycle dedicated to Finnish filmmaker Pirjo Honkasalo, FIKA(S) and the Cinémathèque québécoise present a selection of films whose work has rarely been shown in North America outside of individual screenings. This is a unique opportunity to explore, over several decades, the body of work of a director with a distinctive voice, blending fiction and documentary.
