In 1782 Jacob, a young Swedish nobleman, returns home after 5 years abroad. Greeted with the news that his sister Charlotte is about to marry Count Alsmeden, a nobleman connected with the court of King Gustavas III, Jacob finds himself greatly disturbed by pangs of jealousy.
